every year, you get a little bit more clever, a little bit more mysterious, and show a little bit more of your musical and lyrical genius. thanks for making music that we can spend our special and not-as-special days enjoying. i can't imagine all of the great things that you will share with us in the next 50 years.

Happy Birthday EC! I'm sorry that Carnegie Hall didn't work out for you but you'll get there someday. Maybe for your 60th? Hope you're celebrating anyway with something special. Happy Birthday to my greatest inspiration and the reason why I am a professional songwriter... no matter how hard it gets, I put on one of your albums and remember why I do this... why it's worth pushing and trying to make songs you can be proud of.
