Time To Act

The FCC/Howard Stern fiasco is getting way out of control, and it's time for action. To read a very intelligent take on what's really going on and why, check this out and follow the links there to the other essays, or better go to the main page and read it all.

Then read this one, and clip out the part about Oprah and email it to the two FCC email addresses. I just did. There are mountains of Fucking Insane things going on right now, mostly coming out of the Bush administration. They're setting this country back 300 years, and if it doesn't stop soon it will take decades to snap back, if it ever does.

Elvis has made his views clear. Do your part.

"Old lady judges watch people in pairs
Limited in sex, they dare
To push fake morals, insult and stare
While money doesn't talk, it swears
Obscenity, who really cares
Propaganda, all is phony
."

-- Bob Dylan

Update: An even better summary.

thank god someone understands how important this is !!! bravo !!! let's all stand & be counted

I love the music but I don't give a damn about the political views of Elvis Costello. I wouldn't ask a politician to produce a cd, I'm not going to ask a singer/songwriter what he thinks about American politics. You certainly have the right to your views, but in the long run, no one cares about your elitist Hollywood uber-rich liberalism. Please just go have a starbucks and write more songs.

Since you're not a politician I assume we shouldn't care about your political views either. The question here is about government agencies drastically limiting freedom of speech, and in effect thought. Far beyond anything I've ever heard of before, they're banning the expression of ideas, not matter what words are used to express them. And doing so while provding the vaugest possible guidelines, eliminating the need for evidence when charged, and allowing themselves to change the rules and levy fines retroactively. These are conditions only a dictator could love.

Yes John Ford!

(Who, btw, did not impose his political views here on an ELVIS NEWS site.)

No one wants anyone to lose his/her right to free speech. •Where musicians can go wrong, though, is when they feel the need to air their political views. In doing that, they are pretty much sticking it to their fans who have their own sincere and deeply held beliefs. It can be very hurtful to be told that YOU are wrong, stupid, full of hate and ill-will . . . especially by someone whose music you adore.

. . .and are you SURE this is a Bush Administration thing??? Even Rush Limbaugh is heartily opposed to the Stern censorship and has been since day one.
