Erskine on North

Session Player Peter Erskine reports on working on North:

Meanwhile, Elvis Costello has anew album "North" that has just been released by Deutsche Grammophon. I enjoyed working with Elvis in the intimate setting of a piano trio (w/ long-time Costello keyboardist Steve Nieve and New York jazz buddy Mike Formanek on bass); Lee Konitz and Lew Soloff overdubbed a couple of wonderful solos, and Elvis orchestrated all of the large ensemble stuff that was added at sessions' end. We recorded the album this past spring in New York City; the poetry is awesome, the songs are wonderful, and Elvis' singing is beautiful and inspired. Check it out.
